The Woman Warrior

East or West, the condition of tribes remain pathetic. Globally, the tribes agitate placing their various demands for basic rights, identity and land. However, their demands remain unfulfilled. In midst of all their plights, the condition of tribal women are much worse since they are further subjugated by means of gender. Despite all the troubles there are handful of tribal woman like Leona freed of Cananda who have raised and shined to defend the faith, rights and identity of tribes. C.K.Janu, the founder of the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha is one such tribal leader of Adiya Community who has spearheaded the agitation for the cause of nearly 3.50 lakh adivasis.
Hats off to janu who has evolved herself devoid of political background. Her struggle against the political parties demanding the land rights presents a vivid scenario of realities of political graft, violence and police brutality against the innocent tribes. In the so called liberal, post-colonial democracies, it must have been really an advent task to fight aginst the political parties which utilizes tribal community as tools rather than treating them as human beings. With experience as guide, she has brought in a tremendous change. She has accomplished herself as a great warrior struggling for a good cause. This Woman warrior, no doubt has turned out to be an icon representing the power of women.
